This course is for you if you want to learn useful English and improve your communication skills in a relaxed way with other students 50+ years, in the mornings at the same time as enjoying a range of interesting cultural trips and excursions in Devon and Cornwall in the afternoons and on the weekends.
Our classes are small- maximum 12 students- and we go at your pace, learning the English you want to learn with no time pressure.
You can choose to stay with local host families offering half board standard (single room, shared bathroom) or executive (single room, own bathroom) accommodation, or we can recommend one of the many excellent bed and breakfasts in the area. Our accommodation is all situated in Totnes, within walking distance (maximum 20 minutes) of our iconic school building in the Gate House, in the centre of the town. At lunchtime, you can step out of our building and into a High St offering excellent, independent small restaurants and cafes serving organic and locally sourced food a matter of minutes from the school.
This course is also for you if you love the stories written by our famous West Country author, Rosamunde Pilcher, most famous for her novel, 'The Shell- Seekers' which she wrote when she was in her sixties. Her stories were set in the countryside and seaside towns of Devon and Cornwall and have been featured in both English and German television films over the years. With these popular films in mind, we aim to give you a taste of the beautiful landscapes that inspired her by taking you on excursions to some of these locations and to others we feel represent the romantic spirit in her books. Come with us on a two week exploration of our favourite romantic Devon and Cornwall places. All our excursions are accompanied by our expert teachers or guides. We use public transport as much as we can to protect our environment. Where we do need to use a car or coach, we offset our carbon footprint through , for example, planting trees.
Our course includes 3 afternoon excursions/ activities and 1 evening activity per week, plus the highlight of our full day excursion to the amazing Prideaux Place in Cornwall, where an amazing 12 films of her stories have been filmed by German television. And don't forget to go on the optional excursion to St Ives in Cornwall, where Rosamunde Pilcher grew up.
