2022 Prices

Please note that we do not have homestay accommodation from 25th June to 23rd July 2022- we apologise for the inconvenience but there has been a sudden increase in bookings and we cannot guarantee availability for these times.

Why stay in homestay?

  • We recruit our own homestays in and around Totnes- Totnes is a small, close-knit community so we know our families personally, as well as inspecting them formally every two years, so you know the standard of accommodation will be very good

  • All our adult and young adult homestays (16 years+) are in walking distance of the school unless otherwise arranged in advance- maximum 20 minutes so you don't need to buy a travel card

  • There is a maximum of 4 students (or other paying guests) in a single family

  • If you share a room with another student, we will let you know about this in advance

  • You can practise speaking and listening at mealtimes and on the weekends with your family learning about each other's cultures- and if you book meals, you don't have to worry about food

  • You can choose a full board, half-board or self-catering option. If you are travelling with a friend or member of your family, you can also ask to share a bedroom. If you book a twin room to share with another student, we will let you know the details of this in advance

  • Host families for juniors live in or outside Totnes and our families bring their young guests to and from school every day for lessons and activities so no need for parents to worry about their children's safety. Junior students have the full board option and share a room with another student from their same group (on request or for ministays) or with another student from a different country. Please note that this summer- 2022- we cannot promise  that you will not be sharing with a student from the same country if you have selected a twin room as COVID continues to affect the stability of our bookings and we cannot promise what we may not be able to deliver.

  • The responsible adult in our under 18 homestay homes is DBS- checked and the details of all other home occupants noted on the DBS application which means their details have been checked against the police database for added peace of mind for you as parents

What we ask our homestay hosts to provide for you:

  • a safe and welcoming environment so that you, the student, understand important information such as normal household routines, meal and curfew times and the fire escape plan in the house

  • a quiet place in the home with a desk or table where you can study

  • a bedroom with sufficient space, a big enough bed with a proper base and storage space for clothes, as well as natural light.

  • bed linen and towels- these should be provided and washed on a weekly basis. There should be an adequate supply of duvets or blankets.

  • a laundry wash once a week

  • privacy from the opposite sex.

  • a clean and tidy environment in which to sleep, live and study

  • adequate heating and lighting, access to drinking water always and ideally somewhere to store your own snacks in the kitchen

  • a normal balanced diet- particular dietary needs can be met but they may cost extra and please tell us in advance so we can find the right family to match your needs

  • shared use of a bathroom, with showers or baths available daily, unless the own bathroom is booked in which cases you are the only user of the bathroom.

We recommend homestay as a wonderful way of living our culture to the full!

When you arrive in Totnes, your host will collect you from the coach or train station if possible and show you where to go in the morning. You can relax as soon as you arrive in our lovely town!
